Why are sunrise sessions the best?

This Long Beach Island engagement session will make you fall in love with winter sunrise sessions. I know what you’re thinking, “ugh a 6AM wakeup, no thank you.” And I can’t lie, that’s usually me too. But in this case it’s worth that painfully early alarm and don’t just take my word for it, these photos can do alllll the talking.

What makes the sunrise session so stunning?

These images invoke feelings of love and warmth, but what actually makes winter sunrise sessions so stunning? During the winter months, the sun rises slowly and hangs lower as it moves across the sky which gives extra beautiful lighting for this time of year. As a couples photographer, I am always looking for the best way to maximize lighting and timing while still giving my clients enough time to warm up in front of the camera and not rushing the session. Being able to relax and let things flow organically makes for a better session overall; the couple feels more at ease and comfortable and I have time to get creative, look for the best spots to move around, and play with lighting.

Who does the sunrise session benefit?

If you need to schedule your engagement session during the winter months due to timing constraints (need save the dates out by a certain time for example) have no fear, the sunrise session is for you! They are also super helpful for couples with tricky work schedules. If you or your partner work different shifts or are unable to leave work early to catch a sunset session, a bright and early morning session can usually work!

Why feeling comfortable is so important

You can tell that M & O felt relaxed and comfortable through their body language in these images. They had enough time to interact and warm up in front of my lens, and this is key. Once that happens, then they were able to forget this was a session and really just enjoy each other’s company and have fun together. You can read more about how I ensure my couples feel relaxed during engagement sessions by reading my Atlantic City Engagement Session.

But won’t we be cold?

The golden lighting in these images make you think of sunshine and warmth, right? Well on this February morning on Long Beach Island it was 18 degrees with 20-30 MPH winds. The key is, they embraced it. They held hands and cuddled for warmth, they ran and played and stayed constantly in motion, and we took breaks to warm hands when needed. From the photos alone, you would never be able to tell how cold the temperature was! So never fear the winter engagement session. Cuddling for warmth just looks romantic, I don’t make the rules.

And if I haven’t convinced you yet, don’t just take it from me, you can read up on a few more reasons why winer sessions are the best here. And specifically why sunrise sessions offer the most stunning lighting conditions here. Never let the cold keep you from scheduling your engagement session! If you have a skilled photographer they will ensure you stay comfortable and have photos that you will adore for a lifetime. After all, being engaged is one of the most magical times in any relationship and your images should reflect that!!

xoxo,
